doors are opening, but just as soon, slamming shut

At first it was almost empowering to tell off potential employers when they didn't have a New York office, the position required me to enlist in the military, the work consisted of programming all day, or I would have to know more about finance than I care to learn, but I'm beginning to wonder whether this method of avoiding rejection by turning them down first is the best approach. I just lost yet another interview opportunity by being much too frank in talking to a structural engineering company that initially invited me to interview with them this coming Monday...
