angst of uncertainty

Each morning on my drive to work I pass this block where a couple dozen (or so) Hispanic men stand outside waiting for the next truck to pass. And each time they spot an approaching truck, they run up to the curb and wildly wave their hands at it in a desperate plea for a day's work, or an hour's...Each morning, I watch them curiously, and I feel sorry for them, while at the same time I admire their determination. Yesterday, seeing them reminded me that I will too soon join the unemployed masses, and I felt sorry for them, and for myself...
