leaps and bounds—or not

Last Thursday, I was shopping in midtown when I was stopped by a couple of Chabadnicks with a luluv and esrog and asked if I was Jewish. I paused, a bit taken aback at being asked, but after replying “yes,” I attempted to run off without performing the ritual shaking. But they pleaded with me, and I figured why not. Easy enough. Harder is when a couple days later I was challenged (by another Chabadnick) to explain why I can’t take “the leap.” Perhaps the mind can control the heart, but what controls the mind?
