AKA: Pomp and Snottiness

Very interesting piece on the “The social logic of Ivy League admissions:” Getting In (hat tip to BPS).

Note the last line:

If Harvard had too many Asians, it wouldn’t be Harvard, just as Harvard wouldn’t be Harvard with too many Jews or pansies or parlor pinks or shy types or short people with big ears.

Currently being in such close proximity to the aforementioned "fine institution of higher learning" and its students, after years of having been enamored with Harvard, I can finally say Harvard Schmarvard. However, despite my belief that one does not necessarily get the best education at Harvard, I still think that the name alone can get you places, regardless of the possible facade. That being said, one of my favorite t-shirt slogans, "Harvard: because not everyone can get into MIT."
